What Have We Been Working On?
Presently stAR cARds is a neat little android build phone app, one that will recognize custom made markers and display information about 6 different night sky constellations and their respective Alpha, Beta and Gamma stars.
Star Cards has been an enormously fun project to work on. When we first came up with the idea of star cards we were enraptured by the simplicity of the concept. Since development has continued we have stayed true to that simplicity. The scope at times has presented itself endless possibilities to expand and build into new and exciting areas. But we've stayed the course and really knuckled down to bring to life stAR cARds in its purest form. In future we would definetely like to expand stAR cARds and explore some more of its endless potential. In its current state, star cards is a solid little app with slick interfaces and smooth handling. With the app installed, one can detect and read information of the star cards AR markers.. We have also added small polishes such as the Menu BGM, more interactive marker animations and cleaner UI. In addition to some of the build changes, we have added an additional game mode. This mode, Star Characteristics , is a game to be played with the cards via prompts to the players from the application. The aim of the game is to select a star card that matches the given prompt which is a certain star characteristic. The player(s) is then assigned points based on correct detection of a star after the prompt. Finally, for this current build, we have had professionally printer the star markers! Changes Since Last Build
UI Info Button Fixes:
Implementing AR buttons to first activate a overlay over a star. Then when clicking the overlay, the UI info panel with star information pops up. UI Aesthetic Changes and Artwork Completion: The artwork for the UI panels was remade to better match the overall minimalist aesthetic. And the design of the app,s interface. Menu and Level Controllers: The addition of the menu and level controllers was the central part of making this into a usable app by users. Gameplay Changes: The game play changes have stemmed from the addition of the additional game modes. Now we can do more than just register constellations, but also find specific values of the stars. BGM: New original track was mixed by intern DJ Ivan for the menu screens The All New Star Card Markers
Currently we have 18 individual star cards. A deck of 54 cards was printed so the deck contains 3 sets of the individual cards. We would definitely like to see 54 individual star one day! This would be 18 separate constellations!
The cards were printed on 300gsm stock and come in a a beautiful custom design tuck box. Which sports raised high-gloss UV embossing on the design! Where is the Project at?
- neat little game
- full game flow - app built for android with accompanying markers - Can play constellations mode and star char mode Reflection - very good representation of what we set out to do - still very simple - gameplay mechanics will be an excersise of the imagination - more emphasis on the educational aspects of the game Where To From Here?
- Artworks
- more game modes -sfx - Gameplay Tweaks - instructions - Figure out how to get it to market - Moar Cards

What Have We Been Working On? In our original scope we outlined the core functionality of the game and interaction between the physical AR star cards. We wanted the Unity Beta build to be able to read a star card and render the respective star's information when requested. We also wanted to be able to detect the presence of a constellation, when the Alpha, Beta and Gamma stars were all within one scene at the same time. Since then we have stayed on track, implementing the functionality and creating the really cool stAR cARd markers. Some of the Changes:Updated MarkersIn order to ensure that the Vuforia scripts recognized the star cards well, some design changes to the cards were implemented. It appears that the AR recognizes areas of high contrast the best. So black lines of various corresponding constellations were added to the cards, this kept the overall minimalist aesthetic but added significant boosts to the cards Vuforia augment-able ranking. - Updated the star card markers Star GraphicsIndividual models have been made for each star that features in the game. Keeping with the polygonal theme of the cards the stars have been represented as isospheres. As stars come in many different magnitudes and masses, the models have been created to reflect some of the stars characteristics. Really interesting effects such as transparency, dynamic particles and rotation animations really make the stars come to life as they pop out of the cards! - Updated the graphics Star DataWhenever a star is picked up an option to display an individual star's information is available. When the player clicks on a button at the bottom of the screen useful information about the star such as the temperature, magnitude, size, distance and more is displayed. For an extra bonus effect. The information can be displayed as a small dynamic overview on top of the star if the marker itself is tapped in the real world. - Added UI functionality to display the info of the stars - Added an AR button on the cards for an intreresting effect Recognizing ConstellationsAnd of course one of the most important feature of the game, the crux (literally in one constellation's instance) of the game, recognizing constellations has been added. When three stars of the same constellation are detected in the same scene, a pop-up with the constellation information shows up.. This has been calibrated for all 6 current existing constellation in the games scope... Perhaps in future more stars and more constellations will be added! - Added the ability to detect constellations Where is the Project At Now?- Recognize Constellation Patterns - All markers put into the Vuphoria System - Art work and graphics added Where to From Here? - Creating game modes and implementing a user flow
- Polishing the application - Printing physical copies of the cards - Publishing the app |
